Department of Botany
Agriculture Botany section has been started at the time of establishment of Agril. College, Dhule in 1960. Previously, this college was under ‘Pune University’ upto 1968 . Thereafter this College was transferred to ‘Maharashtra Agriculture University, Pune’ in 1968-69 and later on to ‘Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri’ with effect from 1969. Agricultural Botany section is having one building with three laboratories, office of the Professor of Botany and teaching staff at ground floor and one lecture hall on first floor.‘Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory (PTCL)’ is established from the grants received under “Centrally Sponsored Integrated Fruit Development Scheme through tissue culture” and “Centrally Sponsored Sugarcane Development Scheme through tissue culture” . The lab is being extensively utilized for practicals of Biotech course of under graduate.
Time to time courses of undergraduate have been revised and offered to the students. The old course curricula as per ICAR syllabus, seven courses were started in 2007-2008 with 20 Credits.The course curricula of UG students have been revised now as per ICAR syllabus and have been started w.e.f. 2017-2018. The laboratories of all courses are well equipped in which actual practical training is being imparted to the students. The practical work of tissue culture is actually carried out by individual students batch. ( Micro propagation of sugarcane and banana )
The counseling of individual students by the botany teachers for the educational, social development of the students, preparation for competitive examination etc. is being done actively.
The experiential learning in plant tissue culture and seed productions have been offered as per revised ICAR syllabus.
The faculty for Post-graduation in” Genetics and Plant Breeding” has been started as per University Co-curiculla from 2010 in addition to Undergraduate teaching and running very successfully.
